The GENDER-Q International Field Test is completed!

The Q-Portfolio team is excited to report that the development of the GENDER-Q, a patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) measuring outcomes for gender-affirming care in adults, is finished. We developed the GENDER-Q scales based on the life stories of 84 transgender and gender diverse people who were seeking or had undergone some form of gender-affirming treatment. We then conducted an international field test with collaborators from over 25 sites in 7 countries between April 2022 and March 2024.  We had an amazing response with 5497 transgender and gender diverse participants from around the world participating in the GENDER-Q online survey!

We’ve just finished the data analysis and scale refinement, and the manuscript is being submitted for publication. The final scales will be ready to license in the next few months once the manuscript is published.

The GENDER-Q includes 54 scales and 2 checklists that cover different aspects of gender-affirming care outcomes e.g., health related quality of life, gender practices, different types of surgery as well as experience of care. Visit the GENDER-Q webpage to see the conceptual framework and list of independently functioning scales.

We’d like to thank everyone who participated in the GENDER-Q survey and all of our collaborators who helped make the GENDER-Q study such a success!
